Running Hot

Bodog is officially home. Yesterday, I noticed their $7 4k guaranteed tournament was going to have a pretty massive overlay of 25%. So, on a whim, I signed up for it in the last minute. I managed to get a pretty nice stack early when I flopped top pair/Q-high flush draw and hit it on the river against some guys' flopped straight. I then just started to coast. Before I knew it, we were in the money and then it was done to two tables. I stole here and there and made some really hard/weak laydowns. Honestly, I was just hoping to reach the final table and take part in the crapshoot that is the high blinds/antes at that point. I managed to reach the final table and finish 7th without doing much of anything. Pocketed $140.

My white hot run in .1/.25 PLO8 has continued. In today's session, I made $60 without really doing much of anything. I really don't understand most of the people that play the game. They're just down-right awful. I think I'm going to start noting all of the players on this site so I can refer back to it and also help you loyal readers out in the future.

Bankroll: $530.

.1/.25 PLO8

I've always considered Omaha H/L the most interesting variant of poker. For some reason, I just love it immensely. With my money now at Bodog and the limit hold'em tables being slim, I decided to devote myself entirely to the .1/.25 PLO8 games. Myself and a fellow FCP'er, dank, are usually online at 2+ tables having a blast. I say having a blast, because people literally just hand you their money.

Yesterday, I played about 5 hours of .1/.25 PLO8 and ended up a whooping $145. I didn't even know what to say afterwards. I have never, ever posted that sort of day in cash games, particularly in such a low limit. I just wanted to get my small bankroll over $200, and now I'm over $330. It was a pretty incredible day. Just a rundown of what happened:

I. Session one was roughly 35 minutes. In the entire session, I won two hands. Both I scooped and I left the table with $64.92. On one, I flopped the underfull with a J-7-J board from the BB, bet it all the way, and got two callers who both had Js but never paired up. If they raised me, I was out in a hurry. The second hand I won involved me getting my nut low and top and bottom two pair on an 5-7-2-10 board all-in against two other players. I scooped the entire pot. Yes, that table was absolutely full of morons. And I loved it.

II. The second session actually started out badly. I was down about half a buy-in earlier. I never did anything stupid, just didn't hit some cards and had to fold to river bets. I opened up a second table, and everything turned around. I don't remember any real key hands, except for when I flopped the nut flush and nut low draw and potted it at every street and managed to get 2 callers all the way. My hand held up and I scooped a huge pot. Ends up one had the second nut flush and nut low draw and other had top set. Again, it never fails that people will call down with just about anything.

III. Another uneventful session, but I left the table with over $50 once again. Biggest pot was when I had the second nut flush and a real bad low and managed to scoop a pot against two other players. I was right in the middle of the two, and I just didn't have the guts to raise on the river. I was real surprised to scoop that one.

Seriously, not that much exciting, but a huge win on the day. I can honestly say that I didn't do anything special or tricky. I semi-bluff and bluff just as much as a normal player and they all seemed to work yesterday. The only thing I really have to do now before I trust myself with a higher limit is utterly forget the value of money. I still think in dollar amounts. I absolutely MUST start thinking in terms of bets won, bets lost, etc... It'll take a while, but I'm real happy with how I'm playing right now.

Until next time.

Bodogging It Up

What a horrible title. I may need to come back and fix that sooner or later. As you have noticed, not much poker in my world these last few weeks. I actually had to get some money out of PokerStars due to a complete lack of funds here in Washington, DC. Everything is so much more expensive here compared to back home. So, I didn't play online for a solid two weeks.

However, since I'm a degenerate poker player at heart, I did scrap together some cash to go play in a home-game with some people I met at a sports pub in town. I've played there a couple other times and had a great time. They're not serious poker players, but a few of them can play a pretty solid game. $20 buy-in with about 7 players. Managed to take down first last week, so I had a little extra money then usual. Thus, I did what I always do -- put a whooping $50 into a poker site. I decided to go with Bodog this time, since I've generally found that the players at the micro-limits are disgustingly bad, especially in Omaha / Omaha H/L.

5 days later, I'm sitting at about $150. Nothing impressive, just hitting some cards in the right places. I'm constantly amazed at how bad the .25/.5 limit HE players are though. I don't have the money yet to play .1/.25 Omaha H/L, but I am splash around in it being extra tight. I would post some hands, but nothing too exciting as happened.

Not sure how many people come around, but welcome.
